The award-winning Duo Impromptu was founded in 2018, when Luna Vissers and Emanuel Brun met at the Zurich University of the Arts. They quickly became close friends and soon discovered that they shared not only a sense of humor but also a similar musical aesthetic. Their repertoire is highly varied, ranging from harp classics such as Bernard Andrès to transcriptions of works by Ravel and Debussy. Since 2025, they have also begun creating their own transcriptions, through which they hope to further expand the harp repertoire.
The duo also has a strong passion for contemporary music and enjoys incorporating unexpected elements into their performances, such as percussion instruments or superballs (mallets with rubber heads). During their studies, they were coached by Prof. Karl-Andreas Kolly and Prof. Sarah O’Brien, which allowed them to grow and develop further as an ensemble. In addition to their solo careers, they pursue the highest artistic standard within their duo. This dedication gave rise to the sound Duo Impromptu is now known for : a unique and balanced tone, both intimate and full of character.
The duo pursues two main goals : On the one hand, they aim to bring the harp closer to a broader audience. They believe the harp should be introduced even to those who may not have the opportunity, awareness, or desire to attend a traditional harp concert.
On the other hand, the duo is committed to expanding the repertoire. The harp is one of the most versatile instruments, with a sound that can be transformed using percussive techniques, prepared strings, or by exploring new effects involving the wooden frame and metal mechanics. Even within traditional playing styles, the harp offers a vast palette of colors and dynamic possibilities.
The sonic potential of two harps is virtually limitless, and these two young musicians are convinced that both the future of the harp and of their duo hold great promise.
